Committee Members

President Graham has returned from major surgery in Brisbane and has been improving slowly; he is now back in hospital at Bundaberg with a suspected lung infection.

We hope to see him home again soon, I will keep you posted.

Vice President Col has returned home after consuming copious quantities of Blue Swimmer Crabs in Sth Australia.

Treasurer Garry and Secretary Colin are very pleased to see him back on deck.

Phil Nelson requested that he be relieved of the members’ representative role as he is heavily involved as Principal contractor for Shed Construction.

The Committee decided to appoint Peter West as an extra committee member to represent the members, we welcome Peter.

Easter Fair

Our Shed had an excellent Easter Fair result; we were about 60% up on last year.

Garry Leblang led a well organised team of 23 workers, 16 on the BBQ and 7 on the product stall over the 8 hour period.

We achieved a Profit of $3,124.51, BBQ $2,149.46 and Products $975.05, by selling more than 400 steak burgers, 300 sausages, 6 flying pigs, 5 braziers, 3 dog blankets, sundry tools & books and heaps of plants & plant holders.

A big thank you to Garry for organising the BBQ and Peter Thompson for running the product stall, a huge thanks to all of the helpers, you know who you are, there are too many to name.

The job was made easier and more professional with John Guerin’s donation of a Gazebo for the products, Peter Thompson’s donation of a freezer to make ice and the 2 new Gazebos that we purchased.

Well done. We look now to next year.

Shirts and Caps

We have 34 members wearing the new shirts and caps, they look great and this was evident at the Easter Fair.

Any members wanting to order them please contact me.

Big Morning Tea

The Woodgate Ladies Bowls Club has requested items for their monster raffle at Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday 22nd May.

This year they are hoping to raise $5,000 for cancer research.

We support this event in a limited way this year, but when our shed is up and running next year we will get right behind it.

Health Report

Robert Bell is actively organising this important area of our activities, with the Public Trustee attending last weeks Shed Day, Martin Brennan from Donatelife on this Thursday, Australian Hearing Services booked for 3rd July and currently negotiating with Arthritis Australia.

Health Education is a major contributor for us to maintain our Tax Deductible Gift Recipient status, thank you Robert.

Shed Building Report

As has been reported in the press Bundaberg Regional Council have agreed to construct the entrance road and car park and pay for half of the cost, we are still waiting to receive and view the agreement that will allow us to pay $16,000 over 4 years.

Council want this work completed by June 30th.

We are ready for the slab to commence with Lester Pilat placing the wiring in the ground and Brent Taylor from Red Earth Plumbing setting up the drainage.

Both have been assisted by Andrew Judd with the excavation works.

The form work should start this week with the pouring of the slab to follow.

The free of charge support that we are receiving from these and other contractors is greatly appreciated.

Because of the difficulty in getting the concrete on site, our local SES is going to provide traffic control on the day of the pour, thank you Charles and SES members.

We received substantial coverage on WIN Television and Isis Town & Country this last week after the interviews with Graham and Colin regarding Council’s support.

Isis Town & Country are also covering the handover of the $10,000 cheque from the Woodgate RSL sub Branch.

Next Shed Day

Thursday 8th May at 1 Wattle Street at 9am.

At 10am we have Martin Brennan a Donation Specialist Nurse at Bundaberg Hospital speaking to us about “Donatelife” organ donation.
