Shed Certification

Phil Nelson and a large number of volunteers have been working for many weeks to complete the construction and fit out of the shed, in an effort to achieve final accreditation.

This process has taken a far longer than anticipated, Phil has been in contact with the certifier and assures us that certification is imminent.

Shed Days

From Tuesday 25th of November the Shed will be open for limited operation on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8am til 12noon.

It will involve setting up the shed equipment, sorting out storage and general shed procedures under direction from the Supervisors and committee where necessary.

We look forward to your participation at this important and happy time.

Shed Operating Procedures

The committee has been working with the members to develop the procedures necessary to run a Shed of this type. This will be a living document that is under constant review.

We have a reference group of members who are advising us on the placement of equipment and setting out the shed.

They will also be helping with the process of developing the roles of the supervisors and the training and accreditation for the use of the equipment.

The induction of all members and our safety procedures will be one of the first areas covered, this will include the design and placement of safety signage.

There is still a huge amount of planning and setting up to be done on this, please be patient and help us through this period.

We currently have 84 members with 3 more in the pipeline. 13 of these are members for life.

Membership is now due. The founding committee promised membership would not become due until we had a shed, our financial year is by calendar year.

A $40 Membership Fee has been set for 2015 and notices will be sent out soon.

We will be asking members to complete a form requesting their details again as our records are not complete, for instance we do not have your postal address, please return these ASAP to assist with our administration.

A percentage of the annual membership covers the Insurance for Voluntary Workers Liability, Public Liability and Building and Contents cover.

Personal Medical Details

Members will be requested to complete a Confidential (in a sealed envelope) Medical information form. This sealed form will be filed in the Shed and only accessed in the case of an emergency by Emergency Service personnel and First Aid providers. Please cooperate with this as I am sure you can see the necessity.

Cards and Social

Member Peter Thompson is keen to find fellow members who may wish to participate in games and social events such as, Cards, Darts, Chess, and Pool, etc.

If you are interested please email the Secretary and I will pass it onto Peter.

BBQs and Sausage Sizzles

Treasurer Garry Leblang and his small band of helpers have been extremely busy with Bunnings sausage sizzles on 28th September, 1st November and the Spring Fair on 6th October. They will be off again to Bunnings on 10th January 2015.

These BBQs with Easter Fair provide the bulk of our income so please support them.

First Aid Training

We have applied for a grant to train up to 15 of our members in First Aid, we are hopeful this will come to fruition in April or May 2015, I will keep you posted.

Blue Information Signs

Thank you to Councillor Tony Ricciardi for getting Blue Men’s Shed direction signs erected on 2nd and 7th Avenues.

Health Talks

Health support person Robert Bell is ever industrious in organising the health program. 10 of our members received free Hearing tests in the Shed today.

Yes wives, the tests were conclusive, they have Selective Hearing

Robert in partnership with Childers Family Medicine has arranged for 3 Medical students to speak to us on their specialties in December and January.

We have scheduled our Annual General Meeting for Tuesday 17th February 2015.

Treasurer Garry and Secretary Colin have both announced they will not be seeking re-election. (Sorry for the gossip mongers, nothing sinister it just happened that way)

Official Opening

We have started preliminary planning for our Official Opening. As our major source of funding was through the State Government we have to include them, the election due for March is providing some difficulty for planning.

Happy Christmas and a very Merry New Year.
