Fire Danger Period Declared

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service has declared a Fire Danger Period across the state frommidnight Sunday 4 September 2011 to midnight on Sunday 1 January 2012.

The Fire Danger Period means that except for a fire for cooking (a BBQ) and warmth (a campfire) you cannot light any fire, regardless of size, without a permit from midnight Sunday 4 September 2011 to midnight on Sunday 1 January 2012. A Fire Danger Period is not a Fire Ban. It simply means that you will need to receive a Permit to Light Fire for any fire in the open except for a BBQ or a camp fire.

If you do light up a BBQ or a campfire it must be enclosed in a properly prepared fireplace, an area cleared of flammable material around and above the area, that must prevent the escape of fire or burning material. Regardless of the type of fireplace, it is the responsibility of the person lighting the fire to ensure all precautions are taken to contain and control the fire.

If I want to light a fire to burn off rubbish or an area of land what do I do?

  • Contact the local Fire Warden, Henk Rappard ( 4126 5117 or 0427 265 117) to complete anApplication for Permit to Light Fire.
  • Complete the Application for a Permit to Light Fire with Henk.
  • Henk will grant or deny you a Permit depending on the conditions, Bundaberg Regional Council Local Laws and your ability to control the fire.

There is no cost involved but please note that Henk will not be available until 23 September so in the meantime call Michael Campbell on 4126 5335 or 0427 536 150.

The Fire Danger Period does not mean that there is a Fire Ban in place, but if the fire danger increases a Fire Ban which would ban the lighting of any fires in the open will be implemented.

You should always check if a Fire Ban is in place prior to lighting any fires.
